Move more!

As we all know, being physically active on a daily basis helps improve many aspects of our health. Though contrary to what most people think, you don’t have to join a gym or run a marathon to be active. Sometimes, all it takes are small actions repeated every day:

  • At the office, get up and stretch a few times a day;
  • Take the stairs rather than elevator;
  • Get off one or two bus stops before our destination;
  • Park farther away;
  • Run errands on foot or by bike, rather than taking your car;
  • Take a walk during your lunch break;
  • Use a fitness app (free ones are available) to exercise at home.

Eat better

Since we have to eat three times a day, might as well enjoy it! Also, the best way to improve the nutritional value of what’s on our plate is cooking our own meals and using foods we like. It’s also a great way to discover new flavours and products, as well as save money. Plus, planning and preparing meals is a good opportunity to spend more time with family.

Drink more…

… water! Our bodies need water to function properly. Being well hydrated improves our ability to concentrate, which means fewer headaches and more energy. Keep your reusable water bottle handy, that way you’ll drink more. Also, as a rule, drink less soda, alcoholic beverages, or even coffee, all of which tend to dehydrate rather than hydrate, which isn’t healthy.

Put it out, once and for all!

We all know that non-smokers pay less for their life insurance—sometimes almost half as much, as shown in another one of our articles.  This adds yet another financial incentive to quitting smoking. It’s long been proven that tobacco products are dangerous to your health. At Matcha Insurance, we encourage you to see your doctor or pharmacist for advice on how to boost your chances of putting it out for good. Also, check your group insurance coverage, as many plans cover the cost of selected items or products to help you quit smoking.

Sleep better

A good night’s sleep improves your health. Make sure you have a good night’s sleep so you can reap all the benefits:

  • Go to bed early and at the same time every night;
  • Limit your screen time before bed (no screens for at least one hour before bedtime);
  • Limit notifications on your phone;
  • Make sure you’re comfortable and that your bedroom isn’t too hot.

Setting and following a regular bedtime routine will help you fall asleep faster and ensure you get a good night’s sleep.


Laughter is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress. When we laugh, our bodies produce endorphins, which instantly makes us feel happy. So go ahead and laugh to your heart’s content. Have fun! Surround yourself with people who make you feel good and with whom you can let loose.


Another great habit to get into is taking the time to relax every day. Just a few minutes of deep breathing lowers your blood pressure and heart rate, while also reducing stress. Taking a moment out of your day to meditate, read a book, or indulge in an activity you love helps to clear your head, calm you down and restore your sense of peace. All of this is good for your physical and mental health.
